Google claims to have successfully developed artificial intelligence (AI) for Google Translate to be able to interpret sign language into text or speech.

Melanesia Ubergizmo, the software that Google made in theory allows people who have the problem of talking easier to communicate with others who do not understand sign language.

The process of translating sign language into text or speech involves the camera that is on your phone. Later, the mobile camera connected with Google Translate will track the user's hand movement and interpret it.

The development of AI done by Google on sign language is not separated from the existence of existing smartphones. The smart phone will also make the AI can be carried anywhere.

Although it is able to translate sign language, but the company feels the technology still needs improvement.

"We plan to extend this technology with more robust and stable tracking, increase the number of moves we can reliably detect, and support dynamic movements that take place," says Google.

"We believe that publishing this technology can give a boost to creative ideas and new applications from the research and developer community in general."

Through The Inquirer, Google uses a series of the algorithm to allow The smart phone to interpret sign language using the camera. Interpretation of sign language uses a combination of a palm detector known as BlazePalm.

Resembling a fortune-teller, the AI that Google made uses 21 dots in the palm to interpret each sign language into a text or speech.

The deaf community welcomes Google's findings. However, they doubt whether the software is actually capable of translating complex sign language.

The deaf community states the same sign language as spoken language. So the AI that created Google is useless if it fails to translate the overall communication.

In addition to Google, similar technologies are also made by Mocrosoft. A number of other private companies have also continued to experiment to improve verbal communication technology with non-verbal.
